The registration letters to be applied as follows:
WING
Midway to the underside of the port wing 500mm high letters, The tops of the under wing letters are to be towards the leading edge and at least150mm from it and 100mm from the trailing edge or similarly clear of a control surface, they may cross air brake caps but advice should be sought in regard to turbulator tapes or blown wings.
FUSELAGE
On the tail boom midway between trailing edge of wing and leading edge of fin or tailplane 300 mm high or approximately one quarter of the circumference of the tail boom at the midway point (1 metre circumference = 250 mm high letters), most modern gliders will require a height of about 200mm. They may be applied to the fin and rudder in certain cases but 50mm clearance from the edge is required.
GUIDELINES
The height to length ratio of a set of lettering is 1: 4.8 (for standard letters excluding I, M & W). Therefore the wing area required is 500 x 2400mm and the fuselage or tail area is 300 x 1450mm (lengths may vary according to characters) Please check the available area on your glider before ordering.
Exceptions to sizes are allowed if there is insufficient space to accommodate the full size, check on the links below for more information.
Letters must be un-ornamented Roman capitals, max 30 degree slant. The colour must be clearly readable and contrast with the aircraft background or to be on a white or contrasting panel. On white GRP gliders a mid grey, mid blue or similar is desirable to reduce heat absorption and degradation of the structure.
These are only general guidelines, if you require further information it can be obtained here:
To register your glider, if you already have a BGA Trigraph, contact the CAA Registrations Section and quote it, they will reserve a G-#XXX registration mark, the last 3 letters of which will normally be the same as your existing BGA trigraph, the # will be allocated by the CAA according to the next available letter. You can check the availability at the CAA G-INFO database www.caa.co.uk/ginfo Full information on the registration procedure is available on their site.
